Samburu Game Reserve is situated in the hot and arid fringes of Kenya’s vast Northern Frontier District. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Masai. Samburu Reserve as a safari destination has rugged and dramatic landscape; the Owasso Nyiro River runs along the southern boundary dividing Samburu Game Reserve and is home to crocodile and hippo with the many animals visiting to drink during the heat of the day. Samburu safari may offer sighting of buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and other plains game. Species of game unique to Samburu game reserve include the beisa oryx, the long-necked Gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and the blue shanked Somali ostrich.

Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu
Meet and greet services on arrival in the morning at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or pick up from your hotel at 0730hrs by our driver-guide. We depart and drive north through to the northern frontier district and on to Samburu Game Reserve. Afternoon game drive in this reserve famous for its exclusive game viewing. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Simba Lodge.
Day 2: Samburu Game Drives
Today you have an early rise for your estimated 6.15am Safari game drive during which you will see more of the Samburu’s wildlife. Early morning, and late afternoon are considered the best times to spot animals at their most active.
Return to the lodge for a relaxed breakfast – rest of the morning at leisure. The lodge has a swimming pool and also offers a variety of add-on activities, such as nature walks.
After the sumptuous lunch, take a late afternoon safari game drive before returning to the Lodge by evening in time for a relaxed evening which may be enlivened by entertainment provided by the lodge, followed by dinner.
Overnight stay at Samburu Simba Lodge.
Day 3: Samburu Back to Nairobi
The final morning in the park will have opportunities to add more wildlife sightings to our checklist. But not all the park’s animal activity is limited to mammals. Samburu hosts over 350 species of birdlife including kingfisher, vulture, guinea fowl, egret, falcon and eagle. You’ll have plenty to keep watching for on the land, in the springs and overhead.
Enjoy another game drive as you exit the park on your journey back to Nairobi.
Heading back to the city, have a break up the drive with a stop for lunch.
